Nanostructured electrocatalysts for fuel cell reactions
Development of materials to catalyze the oxidation of small organic molecules and reduction of molecular oxygen is of extreme importance in the context of sustainable energy production. Chemistry extends a great help to solve the key issues in energy technology practices. From the past one decade, our research group actively involved in the development of electrocatalytic materials in nanosize regime for clean energy conversion reactions like methanol oxidation reaction (MOR), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR) by utilizing the chemical synthesis principles. Of particular interest is to fabricate bimetallic nanoparticles with various architectures like alloy and core-shell type deposited on carbon-based supports. Towards this direction, several Pt – M (M = Pd, Au, Ru, Co, Ni, Cu etc.) bimetallic nanoparticles electrocatalysts with various structures deposited on two-dimensional reduced graphene oxide support were fabricated and corresponding electrocatalysis details were investigated. Very recently, our group is focusing on the development electrocatalysts for electro oxidation of urea.
Nanostructured electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions (HER & OER)
Our research group is exploring promising catalyst structures for activating hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reaction (HER & OER) through electrochemical water splitting. Especially Ni & Co-based oxides interfaced with graphene are explored. Studies on mechanism of catalyst activation towards HER & OER and possibilities of synthesizing catalysts with different morphologies are actively considered.
Nanocomposites for environmental applications
Metal oxide-graphene nanocomposites like TiO2-graphene, MnO2-graphene, Fe2O3-graphene based structures were explored and successfully implemented for the decomposition of intractable perflouro chemicals. Further, metal/metal-oxide based catalysts have been explored for the detection of pollutants.
