The overall goal of research is to develop procedures or nanoparticles (chemically synthesized and Biogenic) for the treatment, and/or prevention of cancers and Autoimmune diseases. The immune system is a complex network of cells, tissues and organs, that orchestrate collectively to defend the body from infection and disease. Cancer is a complex disease that can evade the immune system. Autoimmune disease occurs due to overactivity of the immune system, where immune cells attack their own tissues and organs. These conditions are often not recognized until they have already become too difficult to handle. Nano therapy can improve an immune system's work, allowing it to find and eliminate overreactive or cancer cells. The most notable findings from our laboratory and collaboration studies are that Titanium dioxide has therapeutic potential for Cancer, Multiple sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and other autoimmune disorders. Continuing work in this area is designing and testing a novel combinational drug carrier by conjugating titanium nanotubes with quercetin for the treatment of skin cancer. Conjugated Titanium dioxide with Quercetin demonstrated more efficient anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities than Titanium dioxide or Quercetin alone. Our research contribution in the area of Nanotechnology, Cancer, and autoimmune disorders has been demonstrated in the form of several publications in internationally reputed journals and research grants. Some notable publications include Cell Host Microbe impact factor of 21, PLoS Genet, an impact factor of 7.1, J Nanostructure in Chemistry impact factor of 6.4 and Antibiotics, an impact factor of 4.6, Pharmaceutics impact factor of 5.4 etc.
